It pains me to have to mention this subject on our website, but today, our contractors raised concern about the amount of dog poo๐ฉ which is left on the Recreation Ground. They have stated this to be the worst one for it that they maintain – and they maintain a lot.
Not only is this extremely unpleasant, it is dangerous.ย It is rare, but contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis โ a nasty infection that canย lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures.
Great Shelford Parish Council ask that you please consider the other users of the area…as the Recreation Ground (and any outdoor public open space including footpaths, and verges) are there for the enjoyment and use by ALL residents.
If you wish to walk your dog on the Recreation Ground, please pay attention to what they are doing and ensure that all mess is collected and disposed of appropriately.ย There are plenty of bin
s around and our Ranger keeps these regularly maintained.ย I would also like to point out that it is not his responsibility to pick it up on your behalf.
While writing, a new sign will be installed at the Recreation Ground next week, which we hope will be a little more engaging and highlight the main doโs and donโts for this space. One big change, which we have highlighted previously in Village News (December 2021), is that dogs will not be permitted to the left of the footpath (as you enter the Rec from the car park). This exclusion includes all the area from behind the emergency gate, behind the Scout Hut, under the trees and the Playscape, Scout Hut, etc.
Please do keep your dogs under close control at all times.
