We are recruiting for our next Clerk to the Council/Executive Officer

Hours:   full time
Salary:   in line with the nationally agreed pay scale, based upon experience and will be between SCP33 £41,418 and SCP38 £46,464.
Closing Date:  Friday 1st March 2024

Consisting of 15 councillors, Great Shelford is an active parish council with close links to the community, and has a precept of £362,506.  We are looking to recruit a Parish Clerk/Executive Officer.  The person appointed should be:

  • qualified with, or working to, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification
  • self-confident in managing their relationships with people at all levels
  • able to work independently and effectively
  • able to use their initiative and make decisions where appropriate
  • able to manage a diverse and at times complex range of work
  • able to attend evening meetings of the Council (normally up to four in person meetings a month)

The position will be subject to a satisfactory criminal records disclosure check through the DBS.

This post is full time; the hours of work will be subject to agreement on appointment.  Since the parish does not have its own office the successful candidate will be expected to work from home for much of the allotted time.  The post holder currently manages two members of staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a good understanding of local government procedures, finance and law.  This is a varied role where the person appointed will be responsible to the Council for all aspects of finance, service delivery and administration of the Council, providing appropriate advice and implementing decisions.

The Parish Clerk is a vital link between the Parish Council and community it serves and the members of the Parish Council believe that to be successful in this role the Clerk will need demonstrate strong leadership, organisational, time management, administrative and IT skills.
